MEDIA RELEASE: STATEMENT ON VANDALIZED SIGNS

11 April 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chuck Phillips, the Liberal Party of Canada Candidate for Flamborough-Glanbrook-Brant North, issues the following statement in response to dozens of campaign signs being vandalized and stolen across the riding against the Canada Elections Act:

FLAMBOROUGH-GLANBROOK-BRANT NORTH  -  “Over the last 36 hours, my campaign team and I have fielded calls and emails from our supporters who have reported that their signs have been torn down, destroyed, defaced, and vandalized in many other ways. This includes signs at my private residence where individuals came onto my property where I live with my wife in the dead of night to remove our signs and put our safety at risk.”

“In a healthy democracy, participants can feel comfortable expressing their support for a candidate, no matter what party. When voters are intimidated or have their signs removed in acts of vandalism and attempted silencing of their voice and vote, the consequences for our democracy can be dire.”

“These incidents and any video footage of suspects/photos of the aftermath that we have received have been reported to the Elections Canada Commissioner, the local Returning Officer, and to police. Our campaign will continue to have a zero tolerance for suspects breaking the law and the Canada Elections Act while attempting to silence the voice of voters in our community.”

“Make no mistake: our supporters will not be silenced, and their voices will be heard. Signs destroyed will be replaced. File a report of your missing sign at report.chuckphillips.ca.”

“I call on all campaigns and candidates to publicly denounce these acts by members of our community to attempt to silence voters' support.”
